Introduction to OASA

OASA has grown from strengths to strengths since our birth in 2019 during the time of social unrest and COVID in Hong Kong. With an aim to groom future leaders for Hong Kong and humanity, OASA has continued to innovative new ways of learning and development for young leaders, start-ups, and unicorns. Starting out from Hong Kong, our three missions – Mission 1, BEST (or CubeSat for all); Mission 2, Young Marco Polo (Moon-shot Challenges), and Mission 3, Piggybacking to Outer Space – have taken us closer to a new reality where Hong Kong and the Greater Bay would become a key space hub for global commerce, by 2030.

 

Purpose of the Position           

The need for a more research-driven approach arises from the growing reach and impact of OASA.  As increasing number of universities, governments, and parents – both locally and abroad -- have come to expect high-quality training outputs from OASA that would compared with the world’s leading educational offerings, it is time for OASA to rise to the challenge.   Our assertions and published materials can only be properly documented, thoroughly referenced and researched.  Since our DNA originated from NASA, we can only follow the best in class.   Thus, the success of our research approach contributes directly to the success of OASA.

 

The person is our first line of defence against unforeseen risks and shoddy quality. Working with the Director of Quality Assurance, professional trainers, and educational partners, the individual will learn to how to develop professionally-run training courses and programmes, well-attended events, experiential learning exercises, and interactive online engagements.

 

He or she is also responsible for providing the external and internal administrative execution and support at OASA’s academic programmes. From time to time, this person may also join management to welcome international renowned speakers, acts as MCs, and helps to coordinate the many events and activities at OASA, or even speaking with the Press.  A great deal of confidence and the ability to be persuasive and possess gravitas and persuasiveness in dealing with senior level executives is required.  We can help you refine that skill but you must first believe in yourself.

               

A major part of any educational initiative is organising training events and training activities.  The person is responsible for successfully organizing events, engaging with members and enhancing usage of the services and products offered to its members, such as setting up zoom and training activities.              

 

Requirements for this Position

Ability to write professionally and convincingly in English and Chinese.

Speak fluent Putonghua, English, and Cantonese.

Attention to detail, looking for possible copyright infringement, and improper data leakage when conducting research on markets and the NewSpace economy.

Have and are willing to travel throughout Greater Bay during the first three years.

Interest and facility in social media, data analytics and press management.

Being proactive to not only identify critical challenges as well as recommend sustainable solutions to this issues.

Strong academics.  University graduate in liberal arts or in a STEM related discipline or in communications.  Advanced degree preferred but a strong undergraduate degree, good grades, and prior research experience can be a substitute.

Understanding and application of Big Data and AI would be a distinct advantage.Key component of the fun, life-term leaning and high performing OASA team.

 

Scope

The researcher reports to the Office Manager on HR and admin matters, and directly to the respective programme directors at OASA.   The individual is expected to work with many teams and very closely with other professionals and volunteers – global mentors, scientists, and engineers at OASA.  Work hours will be generally flexible, as some committee meetings and programme development work and events may take place over dinners and in the evenings, although such type of off-business-hour meeting is the exception and not the norm. Each week, there are 2 to 3 days of mandatory office attendance; whereby you would come to meet and greet other staff.  OASA works on a 4.5 day work week, but do note our team is dotted throughout the world and sometimes we may have to cater to their hours.

  

As OASA is a new and growing organisation, the incumbent will need to be flexible in his/her approach to work and should be able to undertake any other duties that may be required within the remit of this not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to reinvent Hong Kong. For example, these duties may include:       

Assisting in digital marketing and digital marketing campaigns with vendors.

Supporting the public affairs team on handling media and speaking on behalf of OASA when the senior leadership team is unavailable.

Maintaining and improving OASA social media platform and supporting our various marketing campaigns.
