Manager (Business Development)

We are now seeking applications for a Manager to spearhead technology outreach and partnerships, fostering industrial collaboration, technology licensing, and entrepreneurship for research outputs and intellectual properties (IP) at HKUST and working closely with HKUST R and D Corporation Limited, Entrepreneurship Center, Schools and Departments and other research institutes/centers. The chosen candidate will reporting to the Head of Materials, Energy, and Sustainable Technology at the Office of Knowledge Transfer and play a pivotal role in driving innovation and commercialization efforts at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.

Key Responsibilities:
• Managing commercialization efforts for HKUST’s research and Knowledge Transfer (KT) initiatives in specified technical areas across HKUST and associated research Labs & Centers.
• Establishing collaborative relationships with research teams to identify innovation opportunities, develop commercialization strategies, and foster university-industry partnerships.
• Providing technology landscape and competitive analysis, contributing to the formulation of robust commercialization strategies.
• Cultivating strategic partnerships with industrial stakeholders, government entities, universities, research institutions, and deep-tech start-up ecosystems.
• Orchestrating technology marketing campaigns, including channel development, organizing roadshows/events, and preparing compelling marketing materials.
• Supporting deep-tech start-ups through entrepreneurial programs and gap funding initiatives.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of industry experience in technology business development, IP management, technology licensing, startup formation, program management, and marketing.
• Strong communication skills to engage with professionals from diverse backgrounds in industry and academia.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
• Proactive, motivated, and adept at multitasking.
• Excellent organizational and teamwork capabilities, with the ability to work independently.

Duration: 2 years contract (renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
