Data & AI Engineer

About the role:

Our client is a leading institution in the Asia-Pacific retail banking & corporate sector, currently undergoing a significant multi-year transformation of its data ecosystem. As part of this strategic expansion, we are seeking a suite of AI & Data Engineers to anchor the bank’s core data integrity.

As a Data/AI Engineer, you will be responsible for transforming raw financial intelligence into sophisticated frameworks that drive AML risk controls, fraud prevention, and hyper-personalized customer engagement strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
• Leverage Big Data, Machine Learning, and AI–enabled analytics platforms to support insights across fraud analytics (early risk indicators, AML detection), as well as marketing and revenue generation initiatives.
• Implement MLOps best practices to automate the model lifecycle, including versioning, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment in a secure banking environment.
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL workflows and data integration pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and downstream consumption.
• Build rapid proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate data value, and scale them into production-ready data solutions for business decision-making.
• Establish and enhance scalable BI and data visualization frameworks to support a growing, data-centric business.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers, business analysts, and data management teams, including participation in the development of a cloud-based data repository.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, governance, and performance across structured and unstructured datasets.
• Clearly articulate data insights and platform capabilities to senior stakeholders, translating technical complexity into business-relevant narratives.

Role Requirements:
• 3-5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data science within financial services, preferably in retail/investment banking.
• Proven ability to deliver data solutions that enable insights and drive business strategy.
• Strong hands-on experience in data analytics with solid exposure to ETL development and data engineering.
• Advanced SQL skills with the ability to query, manipulate, and optimize large datasets.
• Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Power BI (Tableau experience is also valued).
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML techniques and models such as NLP, Transformer models, LSTM, K-Means, Random/Isolation Forest, and Gradient Boosting, with a focus on practical application.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present clear, actionable insights to non-technical and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, stakeholder-heavy environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Snowflake.
• Familiarity with data modelling concepts, ETL architecture, and data warehouse design.
• Prior experience in banking or financial services environments with regulatory or risk considerations.
• Exposure to BI platform administration is a plus.
