Junior UI/UX Designer

Automatic is a digital product design and development studio based in Hong Kong. We work with ambitious companies to design and build websites, digital products, and native apps that are thoughtfully crafted, technically sound, and built to last.

We are a small, senior-led team. Work is collaborative, detail-focused, and grounded in real-world constraints. You will be learning directly from experienced designers and developers and contributing to projects as part of a team.

The role

We are looking for a Junior UI/UX Designer to support our design team across a range of digital projects. This role is suited to someone early in their career who wants to strengthen their fundamentals, improve their craft, and learn how professional digital products are designed and built.

This is a full-time role primarily based in our Hong Kong office. Applicants must be a permanent resident of Hong Kong. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

You will work on design tasks that support ongoing projects, help refine interfaces, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow, with a strong focus on learning, execution, and collaboration within the team.

What you will do
• Support UI design work across websites, web apps, and mobile apps
• Assist with layout, typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy
• Help prepare and maintain organised Figma files and components
• Work alongside senior designers to refine screens and interactions
• Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are practical and build-ready
• Take on structured design tasks intended to build skill and confidence
• Participate in internal reviews and discussions

What we are looking for
• A strong interest in digital design and product design
• Experience using Figma or similar design tools
• Solid understanding of design fundamentals
• High attention to detail and a willingness to iterate
• Comfortable receiving feedback and learning through revision
• Clear communication skills in a team environment

A degree is not required if you can demonstrate strong design work through your portfolio.

An online portfolio is strongly preferred. This can include personal projects, academic work, or professional experience.

Nice to have
• 1–2 years of experience in a junior UI, UX, or digital design role
• Internship, freelance, studio experience, or completion of relevant design courses or programmes
• Basic understanding of how websites or apps are built
• Familiarity with design systems or component-based design
